Effort to Oust Hampton City Councilman Continues

A recall campaign to oust a City Councilman from office is heating up in Hampton.

Organizers of an effort to remove Randy Gilliland from office say he favors wealthy developers over homeowners, supports higher taxes, and voted to fire a popular city manager.

The group "Hampton Watch" has already collected more than 1400 petition signatures. Now members are working with a coalition of groups to get about 3000 more signatures.

Gilliland says the petition process is tainted by political opportunism.

More information on the recall effort is available in Tuesday's Daily Press.
