"Lola was passionate about Buckroe Beach, Va. where she vacationed for over 50 years."
One of Mrs. Woodroof's sons advised that her family plans to continue the tradition of vacationing at Buckroe Beach, and their hope is that her six-month old great grandson will enjoy Buckroe Beach with them down through the years as much as they enjoyed it with Lola.

Mr. Woodroof said his mother's entire family is supportive of Hampton's fight to save Lots B as a world-classs city park for now and future generations.

He also said the entire family always got an early start on their vacation planning by talking about Buckroe while they are all together over the Christmas holidays.  He advised that it will not be any different this year.

Buckroe Beach may have lost Mrs. Woodroof in body, but in the long run Buckroe still has her spirit, her love AND her entire family.

Thank you, Mrs. Woodroof!

I was touched to see my mothers(Lola Woodroof) obituary in the Memorial Section on the front page of this website. Sandra read the obituary and called the family later to get permission to use it. We were pleased that she wanted to use it and I am sure my mother would be too.

My mother never went anywhere but Buckroe Beach on her vacations. I can remember her picking through shells around the Salt Ponds area of Buckroe Beach when there was no development there. Her labors are evident in little glass jars on shelves in her living room.

I remember my brother getting his motorcycle mired up in the mud at Salt Ponds.  I also remember when a person could wade across the inlet there and reach the south end of Grandview Beach.  I can also remember driving there and paying a dollar to park, and having a beach to enjoy that wasn't crowded.

How times change.

I know she supported Sandra in her current efforts to stop anymore high density development at BB. Anyone who supports this development should realize that the Hampton Roads area is already overpopulated. You only need to get on I64 to realize that. You dont need anymore high density dwellings. At least one city in the HR area relies on water from a lake west of them. One city in HR has also run out of landfill space and will have to pass the cost of trucking the waste out, on to it's citizens.

I live in a rural area about 220 miles from Hampton. We have our own overdevelopment issues here too.  I stay in various hotels when in Hampton and occaisionally I will talk with a tourist in the parking lot or by the pool and they will ask about a beach or something to do.  I always suggest BB. If I see them later they always say they liked that beach.

I stayed at the Sans Souci once this year, and most the guests were repeat vistor's. The Sans Souci is their home away from home. They treated me like family.

In closing, I have read some of the postings in the guestbook and lets remember we are adults. I do know Sandra has posted opinions that disagree with hers if they are intelligently written.
