Negative Aspects!

A crowded residential development on the Buckroe Beach waterfront and near waterfront lots will not serve the greater good of all Hampton residents

Negative Aspects!

A crowded residential development on the land will:

  • Take away waterfront property from many and give it to a few wealthy property owners

  • Take away convenient parking, play, and rest areas that currently accommodate our residents and visitors

  • Add upscale development that will potentially become another gated community, and thus put restrictions on the remaining space which will prevent fewer citizens from visiting the area

  • In time hamper or stop Hampton’s entertainment at the beach front because of the noise factor as has been experienced in other areas of Hampton

  • Smother and reduce the size of the small remaining portion of green space by adding additional parking to the area which currently houses the stage, kid’s playground, bathrooms, and lighthouse.

Negative Aspects!
(continued)

A crowded residential development on the land will:

  • Unfairly and unnecessarily force traffic and parking on the west side of North First Street in the older residential neighborhoods far away from the remaining park.  In particular, Tappan, Richmond and Pilot Avenues are targeted.

  • Inconvenience visitors by forcing them to park far away from the remaining bayfront park and public beach

  • Add smaller play areas “pocket parks” only in new proposed neighborhoods and adds no smaller “pocket parks” to the older neighborhoods

  • Create an additional parking debacle for Buckroe residents and visitors.  Solutions to the lack of parking at Salt Ponds beach should be addressed and corrected before creating another parking problem at a public beach.

Negative Aspects!
(continued)

A crowded residential development on the land will:

  • Call for residential development to be built for empty nesters while another Buckroe Master Plan Initiative calls for a school to be built

  • Add toe-in parking places to the perimeter of the remaining green space, thus obstructing the visual beauty of the area.  Citizens wanting to drive along North First Street to take in the scenery will have the beautiful waterfront views obstructed by parked cars.

  • Have public parking competing with new residential parking
