Hampton's 'cabal'

I disagree with the implication of the March 21 editorial "Squeaky wheels," concerning the building of condominiums in Buckroe. It implies that since only 12,000 people signed the petition, the bulk of Hampton's population did not support the petitioners' position.

Of Hampton's population of approximately 145,000, some are children and a significant number are transients - they do not intend to make Hampton their home. Some are simply not interested because they have thrown up their hands at the level of governance the Hampton city government is providing, and some do not vote for other reasons. So the number 12,000 does represent a significant number of people who are interested in preserving Buckroe as a true beach front, as opposed to a plaything of the cabal that runs Hampton.

Hampton's population is aging. Hampton's unresponsive government is one of the reasons young people do not want to make Hampton their home. The Hampton city government will tell one what one wants to hear and then do what it wants to do. Its disregard of the clearly stated wishes of many of its people on the issue of Buckroe is evidence that my assertion is correct.
