Citizens vs. council

I had to reply to Gail Daniels' letter, "A welcome compromise in Hampton," May 7, concerning a compromise by the City Council on the Buckroe Beach issue. When has the City Council compromised? All it does is tell citizens what is going to be, instead of listening to citizens and letting them have a vote. This issue really needs to go to a referendum this next voting time.

The City Council has never and will never compromise on the issue of the three "B" lots; they are going to take every ounce of land in Buckroe and build condos and single-family homes. This will cause property values to go through the roof, along with our real estate taxes. Unless citizens whom this issue really affects stand up and say no to the destruction of a beautiful park, all we are going to be left with is ugly condos and single-family homes instead of a beautiful, scenic view of the beach.

The City Council has once again managed to railroad the public into getting what the council wants, all for the sake of greed and money, instead of citizens getting their wish on this matter, which is an open public beach.

Each one of the citizens here in Hampton, in the Buckroe section, need to make their voices heard along with any other people whom this affects.
