Why keep building in Hampton?

Who in City Hall still wants or believes Hampton must become nothing but a bedroom community? A recent story, "Hampton developers want to add housing," Sept. 10, about adding more housing (at more public expense) versus what was planned for the Coliseum area is a case in point. Hampton already has put huge amounts of housing downtown and (on wetlands) across from Home Depot –– and large tracts of housing are planned for Buckroe, for where the Coliseum Mall stood, and for the former farm site off Briarfield Road; then Hampton wants Fort Monroe for more housing, etc., etc. All this planned new housing for what?

Certainly Buckroe Beach is not supposed to remain a draw for any tourist-type trade. Hampton does not want Fort Monroe to become a national park.

What is Hampton leaving or developing to attract tourists, visitors and vacationers and their big dollars? What is Hampton leaving of interest and beauty and fun for anyone, to include locals? I cannot think of one thing.

Once developers have destroyed all our open spaces, our trees, our wildlife, our wetlands and our special way of life, Hampton is going to be left with nothing to keep or attract anyone. I find that very sad.
