Letter from City Manager, Jesse Wallace, dated July 28, 2006:
A park designer will be hired to develop options for the bay front (lots B) and the immediate vicinity that will achieve the following objectives as listed in this letter:
- Increase the amount of public open space in the Bayfront Initiative
- Enhance public access to the public beach
- Provide a wider range of activities (both active and passive) and enhance the appeal of the park
- Add additional public parking as close to the park/beach as possible
- Create a critical mass of new housing that will establish momentum for the revitalization of the neighborhood
Considering these objectives, a number of options will be generated from which up to three will be selected by City Council for more detailed analysis and design with an estimated completion time around September-October 2006.
Per this letter, "Once the preferred options have been more fully developed, the City Council will hold public hearings to receive public comment regarding the options and any changes will go before the Planning Commission."
It is important for the citizens of Hampton to look for and attend the public hearings to be held on these options after the September-October time frame. Look for an announcement on this website.
The City Council hopes to be in a position to select a preferred option by the November-December time frame.
The Buckroe Master Plan will be amended to include incorporation of the newly selected plan for the Bay Front Initiative.
