We are in is a “critical” Public Comment Phase in the planning process for Lots B.
The four Design Options (option's A, B, C & D) listed below represent the design options as depicted on the City website www.hampton/planning.gov. These options were published on the Hampton Planning Department's webpage on Monday, Oct 16.
Oct 17, upon request, the Planning Department allowed use of option's A, B, C & D to be displayed on this website. That same day, we sent a mass email notifying supporters and alerting a great number people of the citizen input process that we are currently in to preserve Buckroe's Lots B as public space for our now and future generations.
Oct 19, the City of Hampton published the four options on the Hampton City Page of the Daily Press and again asked for public input. The news article showed a mislabeling of the four design concepts for Lots B from the order they are shown on the Planning Department's webpage and here.
With this mix-up on the four design options, it is virtually impossible for an accurate reading about anyone's opinion, i.e., will someone be commenting on Option A from the Daily Press which is Option D on the Planning Department's webpage, or Option C in the Daily Press which is Option A on the webpage, etc, etc.
Since Oct 19, we have been sending our concerns to the Hampton City Officials, and we have asked for answers to the following questions:
- How is the City handling the information they receive and will receive in the future now that it is impossible to tell which design option is which?
- When is the deadline for public comment?
- Because of this mix up and apparent delay, will a time extension be given for public comment?
- If so, will the public be given time to comment at a date well past the holidays to compensate for the distractions of the holiday season?
- How will we be certain that citizen input is properly accounted for?
Check back here often for the answers to these questions. We will publish them as soon as we get them.
In the meantime you may voice your concerns about this process to the Council, and send them your design option choice as displayed here remembering to tell them that your choice came from the ones shown on this website. You may have to participate again depending on what the City comes up with.
We hope they will do the right thing by the citizens and determine to keep Lots B at Buckroe public. We need your help!
