Our Local-News Coverage focuses on stories often ignored or under-played by the mainstream media.  Here are some examples from 2005.  SMALL BUSINESS . . . ,

ENVIRONMENT

It’s all about land, water and money.  Correct that:  It’s about land, water, money and leadership.  We worried a little (correct that: a lot) when writer D.D. Delaney could not get new Chesapeake Bay Foundation director Ann F. Jennings to agree to an interview for weeks on end last winter.  Here was chance to get out her message to a mostly supportive and politically active audience – for free! – and we had to plead with her to take advantage of the opportunity.  Finally, after three weeks of being begged for an interview, Jennings agreed.  Maybe she can learn from our example:  You have to keep demanding what you want.  Unfortunately, the General Assemble set aside only $50 million in the budget for one year to clean the Bay – instead of the $160 million for 10 years that the Foundation wanted.  We know the group will be back again asking for more money, but we don’t sense the same passion from its leader that we’ve seen in other groups, such as the Bay Oaks Park Committee and the Buckroe Ladies.  As we’ve reported, both have been fighting – one for years – to protects tracts of land from being developed.  They hear the word “no!” but translate it into “go!,” and pick up their signs, petitions and hopes once more.
